As catastrophic wildfires continue to devastate Kabylia;

As the response of the Algerian authorities remains, in my view, gravely inadequate in the face of this unfolding disaster;

As entire villages are threatened and the lives of thousands of Kabyle citizens are at immediate risk;

As Kabylia faces the prospect of an unprecedented environmental catastrophe—one that could amount to an ecocide—with potentially devastating humanitarian consequences;

As the Kabyle people face the growing risk of mass displacement, following years of policies that have undermined their presence on their ancestral land;

And as recurring circumstances, in my assessment, raise serious concerns regarding the possible involvement of certain Algerian state services in the outbreak of these fires;

I hereby issue an urgent and solemn appeal to the international community.

I call upon all nations possessing the technical expertise, aerial firefighting capabilities, and logistical resources necessary to assist in combating these devastating wildfires and to provide immediate relief to the people of Kabylia.

I address this appeal in particular to the Kingdom of Morocco, the State of Israel, France, the United States of America, and the European Union, urging them to mobilize humanitarian, technical, and aerial assistance without delay to help contain and extinguish the fires ravaging Kabylia.

The protection of human life, the preservation of an ancestral homeland, and the safeguarding of an irreplaceable natural, historical, and cultural heritage are at stake.

I further call upon the United Nations, relevant international organizations, and all governments committed to the universal principles of human solidarity, civilian protection, and environmental preservation to act without delay and help prevent an irreversible human and ecological tragedy.

Silence in the face of this disaster would carry profound humanitarian consequences.
