Shepherds in Kabylia

( Kabylia)–The prosecutor’s office of the criminal court of Algiers requested ten years in prison and a fine of one million dinars against a Kabylian shepherd from Tizi-Ouzou, who was accused of relaying on Facebook publications related to the Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylia (MAK).

The content of Facebook posts that he shared, which were investigated by the security services, are  related to sharing and broadcasting images praising the MAK movement and its president: Ferhat Mehenni.

Therefore, the investigation led to the arrest of a man born in 1992, a shepherd by profession, residing in the wilaya of Tizi-Ouzou.

Subsequently, the defendant is being prosecuted for:

1. Apology for terrorist acts;
2. Reproduction and dissemination of terrorist document;
3. Incitement to hatred and discrimination through communication technologies.

The defendant admitted to having published photos of Ferhat Mehenni, while specifying that he did not belong to any political party or movement.
He  also claimed to have simply shared images seen on social networks, without militant intention or propaganda message.
