(Paris, France)–To confront injustice and arbitrariness, which engulfed Kabylia citizens in an endless repression, a group of human rights activists, members of the National Association of the Kabylian Collectives for Human Rights, who are originally from Kabylia and exiled in France, had a praiseworthy initiative to break silence about the issue of human rights abuses in Kabylia. In fact, according to Mr. Ferhat Mehenni, President of MAK movement over 13000 Kabylians have been arrested since 2021, year of which Algeria promulgated the article 87 bis that considers any opposition to its military regime as terrorist.
Consequently, hundreds of Kabylians were detained, facing mistreatment, notably sexual assault, torture and poisoning. To clarify this grim situation that has been implemented by the Algerian brutal regime, the case of Massinissa Khellili is heartbreaking: He died, on September 6th, 2025, at the age of 44, after serving an arbitrary sentence. However, Mr. Massinissa Khellili’s death was not the first case, some other Kabylian citizens died or were diagnosed with advanced cancer just after leaving the prison.
Another blatant case is related to Ammer Lakhal, whose son is imprisoned in the Algerian prison. Last month, he claimed in his social media page that his son “was weakened” because of the horrific detention’s conditions and his body showed “signs of poisoning.”
The action of this group sparks hope, it is called “The March of Voiceless”, it is meant to defend Kabylia’s detainees who are wrongfully rotting in Algeria’s prisons by a subservient justice submitted to the will of the Algerian military janta by raising awareness at the international level about the pain and suffering of innocent people who are prosecuted for exercising their fundamental rights, enshrined at Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenants of Human Rights.
The plan of these activists is to march from the Bretagne region to Paris, the capital of France. Their aim is to meet people and elected officials in their way, and thus to collect signatures for their petition that will be forwarded to the Élysée Palace to request sanctions vis-à-vis the Algerian dictatorship.

Earlier after their departure, on August 30th, 2025, they were warmly welcomed by the elected officials at Carhaix town hall and received municipality support for their action.

As a reminder, last year similar actions have been conducted around this time. One in Europe, the walk started from the Bretagne region to reach United Nations headquarter in Geneva, on September 2nd, 2024, covering the distance of 880 km. The other was in North America, precisely in Canada, a 200 km walk, launched on September 21st, 2024, from Montréal to Ottawa.
