(Pennsylvania, USA)–KHR organization, or Kabyles for Human Rights  initiated    an international  petition through Change.org platform  to  put pressure on   the Algerian military regime   to immediately and unconditionally  release all Kabylia’s detainees, who are arbitrarily imprisoned in Algeria’s prisons because of their peaceful dissidence and activism.

This action is paramount and laudable while the Algerian  military regime has implemented  fear and silence in the Kabylia population by spreading repression in the soul  of Kabylians. Over 500 Kabylians were imprisoned, including  38 who were sentenced to death. This petition  will raise awareness  about human rights abuses, which Kabylians are enduring. Signing it will urge powerful political leaders and human rights organizations to act in favor of Kabylia’s innocent detainees by recalling the Algerian authoritarian regime to comply and obey international law that guarantees  basic liberties.

Here’s KHR’s  petition issue:

For the release of all Kabyle political prisoners and prisoners of conscience

We, the signers of this petition, are deeply concerned about the fate of hundreds of Kabyles who languish for years in Algerian prisons. They have been arbitrarily arrested, prosecuted then jailed under bogus charges for their dissent, an opinion or a simple post on social media. The brutal regime of President Tebboune, has put in place an arsenal of liberticide laws (such as Article 87 bis of the Penal Code) and  targeted Kabyle people, in particular those who support the self-determination of Kabylia.

In 2021, the dark forces of the system burned Kabylia to the ground and staged a murder to give Kabylia the coup de grace by putting 38 kabyles on death row. Since then, the attacks have continued relentlessly. Today, hundreds are slowly dying in jail with no chance of reprieve from a subservient justice system and defense lawyers who are constantly harassed and threatened with arrest.

Algeria tramples the rights of Kabyle people and the threat on Kabylia is existential.

We thus make an urgent call on the UN, the EU, the African Union, human rights organization and everyone who is concerned about human rights to pressure Algeria to release all Kabyle political prisoners and prisoners of conscience and to immediately repeal the infamous Article 87bis of its penal code.
