( Montreal, Canada)–After more than four long months in the filthy jails of the Algerian dictatorship; Massinissa, my son, was given a sham trial in which he was sentenced to five years in prison and an extravagant fine of $30,000.00. A pure ransom!

Obviously, the prosecutor who decided and pronounced this sentence is a mere puppet who neither considered Massinissa’s responses nor listened to the arguments of its 3 lawyers.

In short, as with all Kabylians prisoners, the judges come with sentences ordered by the military mafia that were tailored for each prisoner. And it was under these rules dictated by countless decision-makers that my son, Massinissa, heard his sentence fall from the mouth of a submissive judge like the blade of the guillotine on the throat of an innocent victim.

As a reminder: Massinissa was intercepted and kidnapped by secret agents in our village on July 27, 2024, while he was returning from a visit to his paternal grandmother who was seriously sick. Rogue agents using methods similar to the Gestapo of the Third Reich had assaulted and sequestered Massinissa. Then, they forced him to drive them in his own car to the local Gendarmerie department. And from there, they transferred him to Blida, 150 km from our home to a sort of house seen from the outside, but inside, it is a military prison. He spent eight days there. After sequestering him in a military prison, they transferred him to Tigzirt, a town near our family home where a judge had issued his committal warrant although there wasn’t any charge against him.

The case has been investigated and reviewed virtually at all levels without the slightest evidence being found. The judges and prosecutors have neither evidence on the file when Massinissa’s case was presented to the lawyers, nor during the in-depth analysis/investigation nor during the famous trial held on December 1, 2024. The simple and solely charge they raised against him to indict him was the fact that he wrote to Amnesty International, a human rights organization tolerated in Algeria by the Algerian military dictatorship, to denounce the violations and abuses of the mere fundamental human rights which the Kabylians have been suffering since 2021.

Freedom to all Kabylia’s detainees, unjustly and arbitrarily incarcerated by the Algerian ruthless regime that is similar to Assad’s gruesome regime.

Since Ammer Umjqan is a Canadian citizen, Radio-Canada wrote in French edition an article about this matter in its federal politics column.
