( Washington D.C, USA)-Kabylia’s members of Amnesty International organization and KHR’s organization members took part in the organization’s annual meeting #AGM26, which is being held in Washington D.C, from 6 to 8 March.
This general assembly is a great opportunity for Kabylia human rights activists to expose and share pivotal information with different groups and members who attended this event. The majority of the attendees are from the U.S, but some are internationals. The main focus of the Kabylian activists is to raise awareness Amnesty International community about the mistreatment of indigenous people in Northern Africa; namely, in Kabylia by the Algerian military regime who’s violating fundamental human rights in Kabylia by imprisoning any outspoken activist.
While KHR’s members initiated the creation of Amnesty International’s local group, some progress has been made toward its officialisation. According to the community program specialist, the group should be active next week.
Also, the situation of Christians community in Kabylia was in the center of attention since the Algerian regime disallowed worshippers to practice their faith, and subsequently closed about 47 churches. Moreover, the grime case of Larvaa N’Ayth Irathen, known as the LNI case, in which 38 Kabylian citizens were sentenced to death, was highlighted with Amnesty International’s staff who are advocating to abolish the death penalty in the U.S and internationally.
