(Exile–Paris)–The Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylia (MAK) and the Kabylian Government in Exile (Anavad) affirmed, in a joint statement, that they had taken note of the examination of the Kabylian issue in the Israeli Parliament, during a debate held in plenary session of the Knesset on the recognition of the independence of Kabylia on January 14th, 2026.
JOINT STATEMENT: MAK – ANAVAD
The Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylia (MAK) and the Kabylian Government in Exile (Anavad) have taken note of the bill hearing of “the recognition of the independence of Kabylia” and on the discussion of relations with it within the framework of Israeli foreign policy. This bill examination took place on January 14th, 2026, in a plenary session of the Knesset, during the 4th session of the 25th legislature.
The MAK and the Anavad welcome the initiative of the Israeli lawmakers who have allowed the Kabylian question to be on the forefront of the parliamentary agenda, thus opening a public, institutional and documented debate within a sovereign and democratic state.
This parliamentary session enshrines a Kabylian reality, in accordance with international law, that has noninfringement to its territory. The Israeli lawmakers — and this is their greatest virtue — have simply acknowledged an obvious fact that the conflicting geopolitical interests of a number of countries refuse to recognize.
The MAK and the Anavad reaffirm their commitment to a peaceful and democratic political action based on international law, aiming for an effective exercise of the Kabylian people’s right to self-determination and the legitimate right of Kabylia to self-determination.
Done in exile, on January 17th, 2026,
Ferhat Mehenni
President of the Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylia (MAK)
President of the Kabylian Government in Exile (Anavad)
